Zooplankton
Zooplankton are a collection of very small organisms that live in all kinds of wetlands. Some live in freshwater ecosystems like lakes, vernal pools, and ponds. Some zooplankton live in ocean ecosystems. There are many types of zooplankton that look very different from each other.
Zooplankton eat bacteria and algae in the water. Some zooplankton eat each other.
In vernal pools, tiger salamander and mosquito larvae eat zooplankton. Small fish eat zooplankton in vernal pools, ponds, and in the ocean.
