Snapping turtles live alone in vernal pools and other wetlands. They live in the same place for a long time if they have food. Snapping turtles are calm in the water but are vicious snappers outside the water.

 

Adult snapping turtles bury in the vernal pool mud to surprise prey. Snapping turtles eat salamanders, frogs, algae, fish, and garter snakes.
