Eastern Grey Squirrel

Eastern grey squirrels are one type of squirrel, but there are over 200 different types of squirrels! They can be seen in neighborhoods eating nuts, other seeds, and leaves from trees like the red oak. Eastern grey squirrels also use trees for leaf nests. They sometimes find a hole in the tree to use as a nest and as shelter for winter. They eat a lot of seeds. The acorns of the red oak are a good food source to store for winter.

In the upland of the vernal pool ecosystem, the eastern grey squirrels are eaten by snakes, like the garter snake, and barred owls.
