Possible Cause 1: There was a decrease in the number of plants or algae.

The algae in the vernal pool doesn’t grow as much so there is less algae in the
pool.

Possible Cause 2: There was a decrease in the number of prey.

The fairy shrimp that the tiger salamander eats are no longer living in the vernal pool.

Possible Cause 3: There was a decrease in water quality.

Farmers use substances, like pesticides, to grow crops. When it rains the pesticides flow into the vernal pool.

Possible Cause 4: There was an increase in human activity.

A new housing development is under construction near the vernal pool.

Possible Cause 5: There was an increase in the number of predators.

There are unpredictably large numbers of garter snakes near the vernal pool and they eat every salamander they can find.

Los camarones hada que la salamandra tigre come ya no viven en la laguna temporal.

Los granjeros usan sustancias (como pesticidas) para hacer crecer los cultivos. Cuando llueve, las sustancias entran a la laguna temporal.

Causa posible 4: Aumento de actividad humana

Un nuevo complejo de viviendas está bajo construcción cerca de la laguna temporal.

Causa posible 5: Aumento de depredadores

(animales que se comen a la salamandra tigre)

Hay un gran número de culebras rayadas cerca de la laguna temporal que se comen a las salamandras tigre.
