Garter Snake
Garter snakes live in a variety of ecosystems. They like the moist, grassy edge of vernal pools. Garter snakes come in different colors. Their color helps them to blend in with the upland.
Garter snakes move around and look for food to eat. Garter snakes grab their prey with their sharp teeth and swallow their prey whole. Garter snakes feed on earthworms, frogs, adult tiger salamanders, and small fish.
Several predators eat garter snakes in the vernal pool ecosystem. Some predators are turtles, snakes, owls, raccoons, and squirrels.
Garter Snake Organism Data
Here is the garter snake organism data my team and I collected in each season last year and this year. We observed Bayshore Pool every day and counted the number of garter snakes we saw. We recorded this data in our SEN. We then graphed the data to help us see patterns better. What patterns do you notice in the number of garter snakes from last year to this year?
