Raccoons prefer to build dens in upland trees of the vernal pool ecosystem. They always live near water.

 

Raccoons will eat almost anything, including garbage. They eat frogs, fish, adult tiger salamanders, and bird eggs. They also eat roots, seeds, nuts, and smartweed.

 

To avoid predators, raccoons spend the day in their den and are active at night. Their predators are coyotes, wolves, large hawks, and owls.
